The winch is installed ........ and it works !!
The special N4 mounting plate for the Daily is designed for 12,000 lbs (5.4 t) winches. I had to modify it somewhat to fit a winch of 15,000 lbs (6.8 t): grinding the longitudinal edges because the winch is approx. 5
mm too wide, widening from 11 to 13 mm of the 4 fixing holes and
drilling of 4 additional holes because the winch should be fixed by 8
screws class 8.8 (I chose to use 8 x 12.9 for security).
Indeed,
although most of the Dailys that I could see so far are equipped with a
5.4 t winch, I decided to get closer to the golden rule that says to
choose the strength of the winch equals at 1.5 x the weight of the vehicle. That is 1.5 x 5.5 t = 8.2 t.
6.8 t is still far enough from this ideal but more acceptable than 5.4 t and remains affordable.
I did not choose the top but a good value for money: a Comeup winch 15 DV (12 V / 15 000 lbs).
We hope not to have to use it. A little naive hope because the bogs in the African rainforest are pre-programmed.
We (Christine and Thierry Dupin) are realizing an old dream that since August 31, 2018 has become reality: a world tour in 80 months with Gandalf, our motorhome. An Iveco Daily 4x4 that has already taken us to Tunisia, Morocco, Iceland, Iran, the Emirates and Oman, Wales, Ireland, Senegal, Gambia and North Cape. The departure took place on August 31, 2018 from our village, Illmensee, not far from Lake Constance. Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany.
Wir könnten ja mal einen Seilziehwettbewerb veranstalten 😉😁
